Before Nurses can reveal their healing secrets, they
must acknowledge 10 things:

1. that they are healers

2. that they were drawn to the profession because of
their healing abilities

3. that nursing offers a gigantic opportunity to
heal many, many times over the course of one 8 to
12 to 16 hour shift

4. that nurses are angelic partners to bring about healing

5. that angels can be called to help whenever the nurse
remembers to call

6. that angels will respond

7. that it's possible to recognize the angelic intervention,
to acknowledge it and to join in the healing flow
of the angelic help

8. that nurses are angels

9. that patients want nurses to call on the angels to help

10. and that patients know something that nurses have
forgotten: nurses are angels of mercy

Speaking of Saint Francis...

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Speaking of Saint Francis...............
by Kate Loving Shenk

=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

I recently purchased a statue of Saint Francis and put him
in the hummingbird garden, just off a newly constructed patio.
The statue continues to transform the entire area. Now when I
look at the patio and garden, it feels protected and peaceful.
The way the saint looks lovingly downward at the bird in
his hand brings solace to the mind who beholds this scene.

Then I went to a nearby church yard and in one of the gardens
there was a very old statue of the saint. The look in the
downward gaze of both statues can be described as pure humility.

I was dealing with a child abuse case at the time and the
child in question was told by the courts that she had to
go back and live with the accused who reportedly sodomized
her for the first five years of her life.

I kept praying for Divine Intervention in this situation
and for the maturity to avoid making judgements and harsh
statements that put down the child's alleged abusers.

Remaining nonjudgemental is an exercise in humility. Wasting
time and energy visualizing a horrible outcome and railing
against the bureaucracy that make these decisions—is a great
example of arrogance, by forgetting that the higher powers
are working for the greatest good of all concerned.

And thinking further of the simplicity of the Saint Francis
figure, who attracted all the animals to his side, I am
reminded of the dogs who go with me whereever I move or walk.

The beauty of the animals reminds me to be a channel
for Universal Love and Peace.

This is the real lesson in humility.

The Art of Living Part 2

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

The Art of Living, Part 2
by Kate Loving Shenk

=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

The art of living means regarding the self and all people as
intrinsically good. I learned to ignore media messages
emphasizing the weakness of the physical body and the violent
nature of human beings. I freed my mind from the hampering
beliefs that created a fearful state and hindered trust of
my own abilities. And this is a work in progress!!

Suspicion of our impulses leads to a deep mistrust of life
and the need to justify experience by rigid rules and an over
compensation for any one particular talent as the excuse for
human existence.

Animals have perfect faith of their place in the universe,
as do infants and children. Faith is the foundation
of the whole of nature, for doesn't summer follow the rebirth
of spring and the rising sun give hope of the new day?

These cycles are given to us and accepted without question.
In this way, the urge for action rises out of the inner
workings of faith. Action gives momentum and direction to
our goals, leading to an overall comprehension to the meaning of life.

The Art of Living

The Art of Living

The art of living can be practiced by the simplest
act of following ordinary impulses, trusting in the
moment by moment assistance of inner urgings that hold
the key to the fulfillment of destiny.

Our society warns against the following of impulses
in general because they go against a logical and rational
reason for action. And as children, most of us were
taught to tame our impulsive side, because it is
unsafe, even dangerous.

But in order to practice the art of living, I was
led to see that my spontaneous urgings were therapeutic steps
furthering creative expression–whether to change my
place of residence, to dance all night, to eat a particular
food, to write down an idea, or to simply pause a moment
and appreciate the new day.

The Art and Science of Medicine

The Art and Science of Medicine

Twenty-two years ago, as I prepared for my nursing career,
I wrote about what I wanted to do and be in order to
become the health care provider of my highest ideal.
And reading it now, I agree that my ideals in that regard
have not changed at all.

First of all, I knew I had to be true to myself in my work
as well as all areas of my life. I carefully thought
about the science of medicine which fell into the category
of rational thinking, ideas proven with good
research, as well as the things that are experienced
with all five senses.

The science of medicine deals with proven facts and dislikes surprises.

The art of medicine falls into the creative medium
through which all things are possible, in this
existence–and beyond.

Nursing Career Transformation

Nursing Shortage Reaches New Heights as Baby Boomers Retire

New e-book written by RN/Nurse Practitioner tells nurses how
to synchronize efforts in order to prevent depletion of the
nursing work force.

Lancaster, PA (PRWEB) August 27, 2006 -- Kate Loving Shenk
is a nurse of 22 years who has a vision of how to save the
nursing profession--one  nurse at a time.

"Nurses must deliberately define problems that discourage
young  people  from becoming nurses--problems such as
on-the-job burnout, Doctor/Nurse disharmony and nursing
school enrollment shortages as well as the shortages of
nursing school faculty," says Shenk.

Shenk explores her view of nursing as a ministry in
the e-book, "Transform Your Nursing Career and Discover
Your Calling and Destiny" now available at her website:
http://nursingcareertransformation.com/

"Nurses are the back-bone of the health care system,"
says Shenk, "which is on the brink of collapse if nursing
recruitment fails to deliver new nurses."

The e-book focuses on the spiritual aspects of nursing.
Nurses are healers, with great insight into human nature.
Nurses are compassionate care-givers who sometimes lose
the ability to maintain their spiritual focus.

"My mission in life is to ignite passion to the nurse
calling," says Shenk. "This loving spark is what will
save the profession from extinction."

Kate Loving Shenk is the founder of Nursing Career
Transformation, and the author of a weekly e-zine
delivered directly to a subscribers e-box, called
Nursing Career Transformation Tips. She is also
the author of the e-book: "Transform Your Nursing
Career And Discover Your Calling and Destiny."

She is a nurse of 22 years.
